Anti-Apoptotic Role of Reactive Oxygen Species in Pancreatic Cancer
Lee Jong-Kyun

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer (PaCa) is one of the most aggressive malignancies, and is the 4th leading cause of cancer-related deaths.1 Most patients have nonresectable tumor at presentation. The overall 5-year survival rate in PaCa patients is less than 5%, due mostly to this cancer unresponsiveness to chemo-, radiotherapies.1 One reason for this lack of response is that PaCa cells are very resistant to apoptotic death. Strategies attenuating this resistance will very likely result in sensitization of pancreatic cancer to the conventional therapeutic modalities.
